Dr. Kevin Hedges started a second career in 1990, after working in heavy industry as an industrial chemist. In 1990, he launched his career as an occupational hygienist in Australia. Initially he worked as a researcher looking at preventing coke oven workers exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons from coke oven emission, and as part of a team evaluated interventions to reduce exposure to diesel exhaust in the Australian underground mining industry. Since commencing in the field of occupational hygiene, he has obtained experience in heavy industry, as a Government regulator in Queensland Australia, and more recently with the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government. Dr. Hedges has a PH.D., from the School of Science and Health, Western Sydney (Australia) University, where he measured miner’s exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and the impact on lung health, Kevin is Chair of the ODAP Working Group on Diesel Emissions.
